A Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is reportedly in the works. This has been confirmed by both Eurogamer‘s Tom Phillips and Bloomberg‘s Jason Schreier separately. Appropriately, this game's remake is well-awaited by fans. That's to be expected to what would probably be one of the best RPG games of all time.
But even though a game remake is already in the works, that won't stop fans from Unreal Cinema from making an animated series out of it. They even asked permission from KOTOR publisher Lucasfilms for permission. It also turns out that the team of independent animators managed to score the approval of the publishers.
For Lucasfilms to allow Unreal Cinema to go forth with the project, they only had to accept a few conditions. First, they can't use any footage from any of the Star Wars films. Second, they cannot publicly crowdfund the KOTOR project, or at least not directly. And finally, they should not monetize the project in any way.
It's a good thing that the team managed to convince Lucasfilms to let them continue on the project. It would have been a shame if they were to experience any maladies this far ahead into their work. Unreal Cinema has already shown footage of their KOTOR animated miniseries on their Youtube channel, and so far it's been spectacular. The renders of their models fit suitably the old-school characters they represent, making the miniseries an apt tribute to the franchise.
