Through the first few days of the free agency period, the Los Angeles Lakers have been a quiet team in the open market.

However, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN is reporting that the Lakers have continued to fixate their eyes on former All-Star point Rajon Rondo.

Rondo is one of the few players that Los Angeles has reached out on multiple occasions over the last couple of days. The 31-year-old was been waived by the Chicago Bulls after the front office declined to pay him the remaining $10 million of the $13.4 million he was scheduled to make for the 2017-18 season, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The four-time All-Star has also received some significant interest from the L.A. Clippers, who have the familiar link of Doc Rivers, who was his head coach with the Boston Celtics for seven seasons that included winning an NBA title.

Rondo is coming off one of the most difficult seasons of his career with the Bulls that saw his role fluctuate throughout the year averaging 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in 69 games played. However, he hit his stride near the tail end of the season helping guide Chicago to earn the eighth seed and lead them to a 2-0 series lead over the top-seeded Celtics before suffering a season-ending thumb injury.

The interest from the Lakers is quite intriguing given that the team selected former UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick in this year's draft. The pair of Rondo and Ball would be an interesting duo given that each operates in similar fashion with the leather primarily in their hands.

All in all, Los Angeles is certainly taking quite a different route this offseason.
