Veteran point guard Dennis Schroder has never been one to mince words, and that trend continued on Monday during his introductory press conference on Zoom with Los Angeles Lakers reporters.

Schroder, whom the Lakers acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder, said he's done coming off the bench and expects to start in Los Angeles during the 2020-21 season, which begins on Dec. 22.

Dennis Schroder backed up Russell Westbrook in 2018-19 and Chris Paul in 2019-20. He's undoubtedly the best point guard on the Lakers, so odds are he'll start even though Alex Caruso is beloved by LeBron James and the fans in Los Angeles.

With the Thunder in 2019-20, Schroder averaged 18.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He shot 46.9 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from beyond the arc and 83.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The Lakers, who won the 2020 championship over the Miami Heat in six games at Walt Disney World in the NBA bubble, should probably start Schroder, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, LeBron, Anthony Davis and Marc Gasol next season. Meanwhile, Caruso, Wesley Matthews, Kyle Kuzma, Markieff Morris and Montrezl Harrell can come off the bench.

Gasol, Harrell, Schroder and Matthews are the new additions on the Lakers. While Los Angeles still hasn't re-signed Davis, that deal is expected to come soon.

With the Hawks and Thunder, Schroder has compiled averages of 14.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists in the regular season.
