Los Angeles Lakers veteran forward Danny Green had another miserable shooting night on Friday, going 1-of-8 on his three-point attempts against the Miami Heat. While Green has been on the receiving end of a ton of criticism for his poor showing, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel quickly came to the defense of his embattled player.

According to Vogel, Green's contributions go way beyond than being just a three-point specialist:

“(Green) makes winning plays on a regular basis, provides a defensive toughness, rebounding, all those types of things, (with) his great IQ and understanding,” Vogel said, via Doug Smith of The Star. “You know he's either going to blast you from the three-point line or carry the threat to blast you from the three-point line and that just helps your offence. No surprise Danny has had so much team success throughout his career. He's just a winning player.”

Lakers teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope double-downed on his coach's comments, as he too offered his support for Green:

“I’ve watched Danny in playoffs that he’s played in and I’ve seen him knock down big shots consistently,” said Caldwell-Pope. “For us as a team, we know what Danny can do and we just encourage him every game to keep shooting. We know that Playoff Danny is going to come out and knock down shots like he did (in Game 1 of the Finals on Wednesday).”

Despite the occasional clunker, there's no denying that Green plays a pivotal role for the Lakers. His championship experience cannot be undermined, and it goes without saying that what he brings to the table goes way beyond the box score.
