The Los Angeles Lakers made a flurry of moves following LeBron James' decision to join the storied franchise. One of those moves was to bring in veteran point guard Rajon Rondo on a one-year deal.

On Friday, Rondo signed with the team. The organization sent out a press release to make it official with general manager Rob Pelinka singing the praises of the team's new point guard.

“We are thrilled to have Rajon bring his off-the-charts basketball IQ to the Lakers,” said Pelinka. “He has a proven ability to play at an elite level during playoff and championship runs, and that is a highly valued skill.  Rajon is also respected around the NBA as an extremely hard worker and relentless competitor and that mentality is key to how we want build our roster.”

At this point, it is uncertain exactly what role Rondo will have in Los Angeles. The one-time NBA champion is still playing at a very high level and proved that with the New Orleans Pelicans last season, but he comes into a situation with Lonzo Ball being the starter and expected to be a major part of the future.

With Rondo signing a one-year deal, there's no telling how long this partnership will last. The veteran guard is an ideal mentor for Ball, but also likely gives the team a better chance to win on a nightly basis meaning he could be the starter right out of the gate next season.

Last season, Rondo averaged 8.3 points, 8.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game with the Pelicans.
