Jason Kidd reportedly remains a strong candidate to play a prominent role as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Lakers head coaching search has become focused on Frank Vogel, who has coached the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic.

The Lakers wanted Kidd to be Tyronn Lue's lead assistant. Lue, however, wasn't fond of that plan and ended discussions with Los Angeles this week.

After his Hall of Fame career ended, Kidd coached the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks. He went 44-38 in his one season with the Nets and 139-152 in 291 games with the Bucks. Milwaukee fired Kidd on January 22, 2018.

The Lakers haven't made the playoffs since 2013. LeBron James signed a four-year deal with the franchise last summer. LeBron's first season in LA was a nightmare. The failed trade for New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis broke the team apart, Magic Johnson stepped down from his president role and the Lakers parted ways with Luke Walton after the season ended.

Kidd could help develop the game of Lonzo Ball. Lonzo plays a lot like Kidd did back in the day. During the fan protest outside of Staples Center on Friday, though, fans were heard saying, “No Jason Kidd.”
