Kawhi Leonard would make less money if he signs with the Los Angeles Lakers after the Anthony Davis trade goes through, according to Jeff Siegel of Early Bird Rights.

Leonard can sign with the Lakers after the Davis trade is complete and make $29.55 million in his first year, more than $3 million below his max. The Davis trade between Los Angeles and the New Orleans Pelicans can be made official on Saturday.

The Toronto Raptors can offer Kawhi Leonard the most money in free agency and a fifth year on his deal. The Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, on the other hand, can only offer Leonard a four-year deal.

The two-time NBA Finals MVP has already turned down over $200 million when he requested a trade from the San Antonio Spurs last offseason. The Spurs could have given Kawhi a supermax extension, but he was hell-bent on leaving San Antonio.

#KawhiWatch has taken over the NBA. No one, not even the best reporters who cover the league, knows what the three-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year is going to do.

The Lakers are hoping Leonard signs with them. A Big 3 of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard would be very formidable and would make the Purple and Gold the heavy favorites to win the 2020 championship.
