Spalding is releasing a unique, snakeskin basketball to honor the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.

The limited edition release will take place on June 15, with the ball also featuring Kobe's signature.

The snakeskin cover is an ode to Kobe Bryant's famous “Black Mamba” nickname, which he developed as part of a renewed mentality.

Kobe–along with his daughter, Gianna, and seven others–died in a tragic helicopter accident just outside of Calabasas at the end of January. He was universally mourned by the basketball community, as well as millions of fans around the globe.

Bryant was initially expected to be honored as part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2020 this summer in Springfield, MA. But the ceremony was pushed to 2021 due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

Although Kobe initially developed the “Black Mamba” alter ego to help him establish a laser-like focus on the hardwood, the “Mamba Mentality” soon became a calling card for young athletes everywhere.

This mentality soon became a mantra for Bryant, who maintained his rigorous work ethic and dedication even in retirement, when his focus shifted to writing children's books and empowering female athletes.

Kobe collectibles have become immensely popular in the months since his death, and hoops fans now have the opportunity to purchase the snakeskin look.

As for Spalding, the company is entering its final year as the official ball of the NBA.

The NBA recently signed a new deal with Wilson after mutually agreeing to part ways with Spalding. The 2020-21 season will be the final year of a 38-year partnership.
