Lonnie Walker IV couldn't be any happier after officially joining the Los Angeles Lakers this NBA free agency.

After seeing his qualifying offer rescinded by the rebuilding San Antonio Spurs, Walker quickly moved on and got a one-year deal with the Lakers worth $6.5 million. He joins an LA team looking to get fresher and younger legs to surround LeBron James with.

With his deal becoming official on Wednesday, Walker opened up about the move and how “surreal” it feels to finally play for the legendary Purple and Gold franchise. The 23-year-old also noted that he is “beyond humbled and blessed” to have the opportunity and vows to “lock in” to help the team fulfill its title aspirations:

Lonnie Walker IV averaged 12.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 70 games last campaign with the Spurs, albeit getting only six starts. However, he has improved his scoring averages every season in his first four years in the NBA, so the Lakers are certainly getting a promising young talent in him.

The guard also admitted he felt like he wasn't part of San Antonio's rebuilding plans, and so when the Lakers came calling, he couldn't pass up on the opportunity:

“I kind of first started out when I was out here working out just trying to figure out what's next and what to do,” Walker said of his Spurs exit, KENS5. “I have seen that Dejounte [Murray] was about to leave to the Hawks. I know that they [Spurs] are in the process of rebuilding and doing things of that nature.”

Hopefully, Walker gets the chance he's looking for with the Lakers. Los Angeles could definitely use some boost at the guard spot, and it could just be the shot Lonnie needs to break out.
