Los Angeles Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball will not play today against the Memphis Grizzlies due to a sore left knee, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. Forward Brandon Ingram will also be out for today's early Martin Luther King Jr. Day game with a sprained ankle.

Head coach Luke Walton said Ball is considered day-to-day, and is still non-committal about his status for Wednesday's clash against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers boss said Ball felt pain in his knee after spinning from a defender in the post late during Saturday's win over the Dallas Mavericks, the team's fourth straight victory after pulling out of a nine-game skid.

Ingram's injury could put rookie forward Kyle Kuzma in the driver seat for a shot galore, and Jordan Clarkson an opportunity to show out with trade rumors aplenty, as the trade deadline approaches.

Ball has rebounded nicely from a very rough start to the season, settling a nice 10.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game average halfway through his rookie season.

The Lakers, despite their injury shortcomings, have a chance to make it five in a row, extending their already season-best streak against a struggling Grizzlies team that ranks 27th in field goal percentage, 26th in 3-point percentage, and penultimate in scoring.

Memphis is now trotting out a 3-point shooting Marc Gasol, an experiment that has now resulted in an incredible dip in efficiency and a 13-28 record through the season. Los Angeles, regardless of the injuries, will try to build off this streak of confidence in an earlier game-time than usual.
