The Los Angeles Lakers came out on top of the recent tug-of-war involving the Los Angeles Clippers in an effort to secure the services of forward Markieff Morris. He is reportedly re-signing with the reigning NBA champions on a one-year minimum deal, as per The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

Morris then took to Twitter to announce his new contract with the Lakers and expressed his excitement for another campaign with the team next season.

Being used to be a journeyman in the league, Morris found himself on the Lakers who picked him up shortly after he agreed on a contract buyout with the Detroit Pistons where he spent the first half of the 2019-2020 season.

He managed to eventually carve himself a role on the team despite coming into a crowded front line rotation bannered by Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, and JaVale McGee. He played major minutes and was an integral piece in the Lakers' championship run where he tallied norms of 5.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 18.3 minutes of action through 21 games played in the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

Morris will return to the Lakers squad who managed to instate an even deeper big man rotation this time around with the recent acquisition of reigning Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell and tenured veteran Marc Gasol. Despite still not agreeing to a new extension thus far, star forward Anthony Davis is expected by many to come back and continue to suit up for the Lakers for the coming seasons.

The retention of Markieff Morris will prove to be vital for the Lakers who are gunning for a second consecutive title amid an expected tougher competition in the 2020-2021 NBA season.
