The Los Angeles Lakers went through the most interesting transformations in basketball this offseason, but they will be without rookie big man Moe Wagner for preseason play. According to Harrison Faigen, Wagner is still recovering from a bone contusion from the summer.

The German giant is seven-feet tall but was considered a forward during his three years of college basketball at Michigan. His Wolverines may have lost to Villanova in the NCAA Finals, but he showcased a skill set that will convert well to the NBA game.

Moe Wagner can score the basketball from all three levels. Like most European bigs, he has a talent for stretching the floor by shooting from deep. He didn't always have this skill though. He shot 16.7 percent from long range in his first year at Michigan while shooting less than a single three a game. By his third year, Wagner was launching four 3-pointers per game at a 39.4 percent clip. Not bad at all.

The Lakers won't have many minutes for Wagner as a power forward. With the addition of LeBron James in the summer, Brandon Ingram may be moved to the four-spot. While their official starting lineup is not yet confirmed, it remains a strong possibility. The Lakers also have Kyle Kuzma and Michael Beasley at their disposal, both of which are more developed than Wagner.

Wagner can make an impact as a center for the team. JaVale McGee is a lock to start, but Wagner should have a chance to battle with Ivica Zubac. One of them should be McGee's primary backup. The Lakers have tremendous depth in their ball handlers. With Wagner, the Lakers will be even more versatile this season.
