The Los Angeles Lakers will search for a new coach after firing Luke Walton. General manager Rob Pelinka will lead the coaching search, which means that the former player agent will likely be in control in Los Angeles.

According to ESPN Los Angeles, the fact that Pelinka will be in charge to find a new coach likely means that the Lakers have no plans to find a new team president. The Lakers have no president of basketball of operations at this point after Magic Johnson surprisingly stepped down on Tuesday.

Johnson shocked the basketball world with his decision to leave the Lakers, saying that he is no longer happy with the job. There were reports that Pelinka could also be on his way out, but it appears he has gained more power in the franchise's basketball operations.

Walton was given the pink slip after a disappointing season for the Lakers. There were high expectations for the team after they acquired LeBron James last summer. But because of injuries and trade distractions, the Lakers struggled in the second half of the season, and finished 10th in the West with a 37-45 record.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Lakers will strongly consider hiring former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue for the coaching vacancy. Lue is said to be strong frontrunner because of his good relationship with James, having won a title together in Cleveland in 2016.

Wojnarowski also added that former New Orleans Pelicans coach Monty Williams is also a serious candidate. He also has history with James, having worked together with USA Basketball several years ago.
