Kobe Bryant has been in headlines this week because he's made himself available to some of the game's current players.

Bryant has been talking to Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics, giving him pointers and advice as Thomas leads the Celtics through the Eastern Conference playoffs. Kobe also admitted that he's talked to a number of players since retiring and that he considers himself an open book to them.

Maybe not for Lonzo Ball though.

Ball's father, LaVar, had this to say regarding Kobe giving advice to players.

Via ESPN:

“I don't need no advice from Kobe Bryant,” LaVar Ball said Thursday on the Keyshawn, Jorge and LZ Show on ESPN Radio 710 LA. “I don't need advice from Kobe Bryant. Zo's got to play his game.

“If they're at practice and he sees something and Lonzo listens to him or whatever, he's good. … But it's just not, ‘OK, I'm talking to Kobe, so now I'm going to be good.' If Kobe sees something that Zo is doing, then go from there. But I'm not trying to pattern after nobody.”

As usual, somewhat of an oddly aggressive comment from LaVar over a pretty harmless gesture Kobe has been giving players these days.

LaVar doesn't lack confidence in himself or his sons so the quote is not a surprise. He doesn't think Lonzo will need Kobe to be great. Time will tell.
