It seems like all is not well in the world of Nintendo, as they have recently announced that the highly anticipated sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, will be receiving a delay, and quite a hefty delay at that. Previously, the developers were aiming for a 2022 release, with most speculating that it would be out by the holiday season, but that will no longer be the case.

In an uploaded YouTube youtube that was released on March 29th, 2022 at 10 AM EST, Eiji Aonuma, the producer of the Legend of Zelda series, went on and made the announcement that the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 has had some snags with its current development, and thus, the release date for the game has been changed from 2022 to Spring of 2023.

Within the video, Eiji Aonuma also goes on to state that they're deeply sorry for the delay, but they're looking to make the game the best it can possibly be, as the overall scope and scale of the game have completely changed. No longer will players only be exploring the land, as they'll also be exploring the skies above. They also have plans for a ton of new gameplay features and experiences that have never been seen in a Legend of Zelda game before.

Eiji Aonuma then closes out by saying that their team is working diligently on the game and that fans should be patient as they continue their work.

While the delay for Beath of the Wild 2 is disappointing, it's completely expected at this point, as the game has been Nintendo's top priority for the past few years. With many other games that have found success making use of Breath of the Wild's gameplay formula, such as Elden Ring and Genshin Impact, Nintendo is going to have to outdo themselves if they want to set the bar for open-world exploration games once again.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available on Nintendo Switch.
