New Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi is the highest-rated player in “FIFA 22,” while recent Manchester United transfer Cristiano Ronaldo fell to no. 3 on the list where he was often in the Top 1 or 2.

On Sunday, EA Sports tweeted its Top 22 player ratings for “FIFA 22.” While it's not surprising to see Messi (93) top the list since he has been its highest-rated player since “FIFA 19,” Ronaldo's place on the third spot with a 91 rating was quite shocking. Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski snagged the second spot from the new Red Devil, getting a 92 rating from the popular football simulation game.

Of course game ratings don't really accurately reflect the skills and abilities of players. Some athletes may do well but don't get enough credit in the game-such is life in the world of virtual sports. But then again, being the top overall player and getting a high rating is a badge of honor and status symbol for elite athletes.

Fans and experts alike have been pitting Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi against each other for the honor of being the best footballer in the world, and “FIFA 22” certainly gave the Messi supporters a new bullet to fire at Ronaldo fans.

It's unlikely Ronaldo cares about the rating, but it would certainly be fun if he'd be motivated to show the world that “FIFA 22” is wrong for putting him at third–even behind Lewy.

As for Messi, it's undoubtedly incredible to see him remain at the top of his game despite being 34 already.
