Damon Harrison did not enjoy his tenure with the Detroit Lions.

The 31-year-old defensive tackle is currently a free agent after being released by the Lions. The former First Team All-Pro selection spent a couple of seasons in Detroit after he was traded by the New York Giants.

Needless to say, it's probably safe to say that he won't be returning to Detroit anytime soon. The veteran lineman went on record as saying he was skeptical of joining the Lions immediately. To make matters even more interesting, Harrison was “hell-bent” on getting out of Detroit.

“I came into camp in shape. But during the first three weeks of camp I think I kind of worked myself out of shape because I wasn’t doing anything,” Harrison said. “That was a time where, to be honest with you, we were trying to facilitate a trade. I was hell-bent on getting out of there.”

Harrison was initially traded to the Lions in October of 2018. Detroit would end up giving him a one-year extension to remain with the Lions for one more season. Despite Detroit's commitment to him, Harrison claims he was mentally out of it.

“Mentally I was just out of it, man,” he said.

“To be completely honest with you, I didn’t want to go to Detroit because of some things that I heard from some guys in the past and some guys who were there,” Harrison said. “So when I got the call that that’s where I was traded, I didn’t answer the phone for a couple hours. [General Manager] Bob Quinn was calling me and I didn’t pick up the phone because I was trying to figure out a way to get out of it. . . .”

The eight-year veteran remained healthy during his tenure in Detroit. In fact, he started 15 games this past season and nine of the 10 games he appeared in for the Lions during the 2018 season. However, he didn't come to close to matching the production that made him an All-Pro selection during the 2016 season.

In 2016, Harrison registered 86 total tackles. In fact, he led the league in run-stop percentage for four consecutive seasons from 2013 until 2016. He was even named on the NFL's Top 100 Players list entering the 2017 season. However, he registered just 49 total tackles during the 2019 season.

We'll see where Harrison ends up for the 2020 season, but don't expect him to be playing in the motor city.
