Newly hired Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is ushering in a new era to the team with his own brand of leadership. He described himself as a “true alpha” and bared that he is willing to go out of his way and hear the opinion of his peers in a bid to make more cohesive decisions for the team.

Via Nick Shook of NFL.com:

“Here's what I would say about a true alpha: A true alpha knows when it's time to concede for the betterment of the team,” Campbell said. … “We haven't had one problem, and we're not going to have a problem because if we feel like it's the betterment for the team, then ultimately let's go to work. Brad feels one way? What does the pack feel like? How does everybody feel? How do all the coaches feel? How does Ray Agnew feel? If I'm the one, the odd man out, I got zero problem.”

Campbell claimed that he is open to letting Lions general manager Brad Holmes have a more dominant voice in the war room as they prepare toward the coming offseason. He also mentioned that he is comfortable in hearing out what guys like assistant general manager Ray Agnew have to say about their team decisions.

The upcoming offseason will be pivotal for the Lions' rebuilding cause as they concluded the past season with a 5-11 record to finish fourth in the NFC North. The Detroit-based squad also has a huge decision to make as they will be picking seventh overall in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.

In addition to the challenge of picking the right young prospects, the Lions will also try their luck to snag notable free agents to come and play in Detroit. The Lions will have a more viable path to success if they manage to build a new culture within the team, especially with the type of mindset that Dan Campbell is currently showing as their new leader.
