Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is going to be out with the team at practice but won't be practicing on Wednesday, according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.

Stafford is dealing with fractures in his back and there is no timetable for a potential return. There has been some discussion this week if the team should even bring him back this season because the team is already out of the playoff discussion. Former Lions wideout Herman Moore thinks it's time the Lions shut down Stafford and let him get ready for next season.

“I would look at it and say, ‘What is there to gain?‘ ” former Lions wideout Herman Moore said, via Brandon Folsom of the Port Huron Times Herald. “If this team was postseason bound, which it looks very bleak right now, I would try to bring Stafford back. But I don’t know if it’s worth the risk.”

Stafford is a competitor and there is no doubt he is going to want to play even if he has to battle through injuries, but it might be best the team steps in here and shuts him down.

“I do believe at this point it may not be a bad idea to consider it,” Moore said. “That’s ultimately not my decision or the fans’ — that’s the team’s.”

There should be a better idea of Stafford's status for Sunday as we get closer to game day. However, it's difficult to envision him playing against the Washington Redskins given that he is not practicing still and it's already Wednesday.
