It is not only the New York Jets who tried to acquire Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers recently. Apparently the Detroit Lions also showed interest and even made an offer, albeit to no avail.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Lions offered a first round pick and more for the star wide receiver. Unfortunately, it was not enough for the 49ers to even consider doing a trade.

“The Lions offer was, I think, a one and a three, and the 49ers didn't view that as a good enough offer,” Rapoport said in his latest appearance on the The Rich Eisen Show. “And they wanted to keep the player anyway, so they just didn't trade him.”

For what's worth, the Jets offered pick No.10 of the 2022 NFL Draft as well as a fifth rounder in exchange for Deebo Samuel and the 61st overall pick, but the 49ers still rejected that. With that said, it's no surprise why the Lions didn't go far in their attempt to get Samuel out of San Francisco.

Not to mention that the 49ers really don't want to trade the wideout. While they seem likely to consider it if the price is right, it is obvious they don't want to part ways with him considering his asking price.

The problem for the 49ers is that Samuel really wants to be traded. He is also reportedly willing to wait things out as he understands it could “drag out for a while.”

Maybe the 49ers are still hoping he could have a change of mind? Regardless, if Samuel pushes through with his demand, San Francisco might end up regretting rejecting the Jets and Lions' offers.
