Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson has already chimed in on the discussion for this year's NBA MVP award. Several players have played on a high level this season that the Hall of Famer had a hard time selecting his top pick for the honor.

He then divided his candidates into two divisions: Tier One and Two.

Johnson claimed that the NBA MVP candidates belonging to ‘Tier One' include LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, among the other league's top players. However, it didn't stop there as Johnson also revealed a ‘Tier Two' group which composed of a handful of stars who have also made noise this season.

It might be realistic to say that this season's MVP awardee will come from Johnson's Tier One group, barring any unforeseen circumstances in the second half of the season. For instance, Lakers star LeBron James continues to dominate the league in his 18th season with averages of 25.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.0 assists in 25 games.

Golden State Warriors lead guard Stephen Curry continues to impress in his comeback season as well by posting norms of 29.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists through 24 appearances. On the other hand, Milwaukee Bucks main man Giannis Antetokounmpo remains to be his usual self as he vies for his third-straight plum with averages of 27.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in 23 games.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic have both emerged as dark-horse candidates for the NBA MVP award this season. Ultimately, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant and Dallas Mavericks' Luka Doncic remain to be in contention for the league's top individual honor as well.
