It was a tumultuous campaign for Manchester United, who failed to make the Champions League after finishing in sixth place with just 58 points in 38 Premier League games. Despite failing to live up to expectations, however, Cristiano Ronaldo was a lone bright spot in his first season back at Old Trafford, scoring 24 goals across all competitions in 39 appearances. As a result, the Portuguese star has been named the Red Devils' Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for 2021/22.

Via Goal:

Ronaldo saved Manchester United from even more defeats this term with his heroics in the final third. The 37-year-old bagged hat-tricks in league action against Tottenham and Norwich while also scoring a key winner in the UCL group stages against Villarreal. On many different occasions, Cristiano proved to be the difference-maker in a lifeless season for the Red Devils.

Despite the club missing out on Europe's most prestigious competition, Ronaldo is expected to stay at the club as Erik ten Hag takes over as the new boss. Cristiano insists he's still happy at Manchester United and hopes to guide them back into the top-four in 2022/23.

This is the fourth time in his career he's won this award, previously being named United Player of the Year in 2003/04, 2006/07, and 2007/08. Pure class. It's clear Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't lost a step in his ability to bang in goals on a consistent basis. The Red Devils now just need to improve their squad around him.
