With the January Transfer Window set to shut in just a few hours' time, teams are hard at work finalizing some last-minute deals in order to set themselves up for the second half of the season. One player who has been angling for a move in order to get first-team opportunities has been Manchester United's Jesse Lingard. Well, Manchester United has handed down an official stance on a potential Lingard move, and the player won't be pleased. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Manchester United has shot down the possibility of Lingard leaving on loan before the transfer window shuts.

With Lingard clearly not in United boss Ralf Rangnick's immediate plans, the 29-year-old has been pushing for a loan move in order to get some playing time. He had been linked to a handful of clubs across the Premier League, though Newcastle were the most heavily involved in his sweepstakes amid their spending frenzy this month.

Despite the interest in the midfielder, United have stood pat on their stance that Lingard will remain with the club, in what is ultimately a confusing decision from the club. Lingard has featured in just nine matches this season, logging a total of 97 minutes on the pitch. He's made the most of his opportunities, however, tallying two goals in league play.

Last year, Lingard was allowed to leave for a six-month loan spell at West Ham, during which he instantly became the Hammers' most dynamic offensive weapon. Across 16 games for the London club, Lingard scored nine goals and added four assists. Despite promises that he'd receive playing opportunities at Old Trafford in 2021-22, that's been far from the case.

Unfortunately for Lingard, Rangnick and Co. have no plans of offloading him before the window shuts, so he'll have to continue biding his time on the bench.
