The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the midst of a very tight playoff race in the eastern conference. They have been staying afloat despite numerous injuries. Maple Leafs starting goalie Jack Campbell has not played since March 8th with a rib injury. That forced them to sign Petr Mrazek. Mrazek then suffered a groin injury in Tuesday's 6-4 win over Boston.

Recent reports have Mrazek out for at least six weeks. That means he likely will not be available for at the very least, the start of the playoffs. However, they got some good news on Campbell.

Campbell has been medically cleared to return by team doctors. According to Toronto head coach Sheldon Keefe, Campbell is expected to be a full participant at practice Friday.

Meanwhile, with Mrazek out for an extended period of time, the Maple Leafs will lean on rookie goalie Erik Kallgren until Campbell is prepared to be back in net.

Keefe expressed confidence in his rookie goaltender, noted by NHL correspondent Dave McCarthy. “He's gained confidence the more comfortable he gets here and obviously Jack is right on the cusp of returning and looks really good so from that sense we feel good. Most importantly at this point for me, and I've been talking about it all the way through this season, I'm focused on how we play as a team. When we play like we have been playing, it gives no matter who is in goal a great chance of success and we've seen that here of late.”

Campbell was among the leagues leading goalie prior to his injury. He is 24-9-4 with a 2.65 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.

Toronto is third in the Atlantic Division with 89 points, but are only one point behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for home-ice advantage in the first round.
