The Dallas Mavericks finally released an official update on Luka Doncic's calf injury ā€¦ and Mavs predictably said little as they prepare for a first-round series against the Utah Jazz.

Dallas simply confirmed that an MRI revealed a left calf strain and there is no timetable for Doncic to return as he undergoes treatment:

This kind of gamesmanship was expected from the Mavs as the playoffs approach. They're giving away as little information as possible so as not to telegraph Doncic's true status. Even if they know right now that he's not going to be ready for Game 1 on Saturday, they're not going to divulge that information. It also makes sense not to put pressure on him to play by saying he's good to go.

Doncic's status will be a major storyline to watch. The Mavs will obviously be in big trouble if he misses time, even with the Jazz struggling down the stretch of the season and looking like they could implode. Doncic had another MVP-caliber season, coming on strong after a sluggish start to the campaign. He finished the regular season with averages of 28.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.7 assists while shooting 45.7% from the field and 35.3% from 3-point range.

Dallas shot up to the No. 4 seed behind Doncic's brilliance, racking up 52 wins in the process. Mavs fans just have to hope that he's going to be okay, but the picture of him in a walking boot on Monday didn't help matters, and neither will this update.
