The Dallas Mavericks have withdrawn their qualifying offer to forward Doug McDermott, less than a day after the Mavs extending one, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe.

The Mavericks had extended offers to McDermott, point guard Yogi Ferrell and center Salah Mejri on Tuesday, making them restricted free agents, but the potential to clear his $10 million cap hold pushed the front office a different way.

This would render McDermott as an unrestricted free agent, broadening his market as a long-range shooting forward that can rebound, despite Dallas still having interest in retaining him.

McDermott has played for four different teams throughout his first four seasons in the league, failing to find his niche with a rotation as a stretch-four.

This move is largely believed to hinge in Dallas' optimism in snatching big man DeMarcus Cousins by offering him a max-level contract, one that would prove ultimately tough to obtain with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Mavs will also aim at the likes of DeAndre Jordan (yes, again), an restricted free agents like Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, and Clint Capela, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Colleague Bobby Marks estimates Dallas could create as much as $26 million in cap space, which would include declining a $5 million team-option on longtime forward Dirk Nowitzki and re-signing him to and even cheaper contract.
