This is the 20th season with the Dallas Mavericks for Dirk Nowitzki.

He won a championship in 2011 and is widely considered the best European player to ever lace up his sneakers in the NBA.

But Nowitzki is nearing retirement and is beginning to get nostalgic about the all the time he has spent in various NBA arenas over the years. After the Mavericks beat the New York Knicks on Tuesday, he spoke of some of his memories playing in Madison Square Garden, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

MSG is one of the best arenas to have any sort of event, but its history with basketball is well chronicled. Every basketball player that has played has positive views of what it's like to play there.

The most interesting part of Nowitzki's quote to MacMahon is how laced with finality it is. It appears as though he may have slipped and hinted that he really will retire at the end of season.

He said he will miss playing at Madison Square Garden, and actually said the word “miss” twice. He then later says he would hope to play there once more.

If you have seen Nowitzki play either on TV or in person this season, it looks like he is having a tough time moving out there. He runs as though he has lead in his shoes, and is pretty much only shooting jumpers nowadays, albeit with great efficiency.

But it appears the time to watch Nowitzki is closer than we thought, and fans should appreciate him this season while he is still around. He is truly one of the great players to ever step foot on a basketball floor, and he will be sorely missed when he retires.
