Jalen Brunson knows Luka Doncic badly wants to suit up for the Dallas Mavericks this postseason, but he doesn't want the Mavs star to rush his recovery and then risk getting a more significant injury.

Brunson, who led the Mavs to a 110-104 Game 2 win over the Utah Jazz on Monday, reminded Doncic to take his time and make a sound decision that will not have a negative impact on his career. The 25-year-old guard knows how much the Slovenian wants to win, so he promised that they will do their best to hold down the fort while they await for his return.

“I know he's dying to get out there soon, but he's got to take his time,” Brunson said following the Game 2 victory, per ESPN. “I know he's doing everything in his power to not let his team down, but he has to make the decision that's best for him. Not necessarily knowing where he is, but I just know that he's a competitor and he wants to be out there. We're trying to hold it down for him.”

The Mavs tied the series 1-1 after Jalen Brunson poured in 41 points to propel the Mavs to their latest victory over the Jazz. Sure enough, that removed some pressure on Luka Doncic to come back as soon as possible. Had Dallas lost and fell 0-2, it's more than likely that Doncic will try to get back to the floor by Game 3.

According to the latest reports, there is some optimism about Doncic's return from his left calf strain in Games 3 or 4, but there is nothing final as everything depends on how his workouts in the next couple of days go.

As Brunson said, however, Doncic should take his time and focus on getting to 100 percent health before getting back to action. After all, Luka can definitely trust his teammates to go all out while he's recovering.
