Dallas Mavericks new head coach Jason Kidd admits that he's come a long way since his first head coaching stint with the Brooklyn Nets back in 2013.

The first-year Mavs mentor has been around the league over the past few seasons as part of different coaching staffs, but his coaching career started with the Nets franchise almost a decade ago and, per Kidd, it was a horrifying experience.

“When I first became a head coach, I was scared to death. I knew nothing,” Kidd admitted (via Callie Caplan of Dallas News).

The former NBA champion as a player for the Mavs had a huge task upon signing his coaching contract with Brooklyn. Alongside Kidd, two legends were also set to make their Nets debut that season as both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett signed with Brooklyn as part of the major overhaul of the franchise. Kidd had a stacked team and made the most out of what he had as he led the Nets all the way to the second round of the 2014 playoffs.

Now that he's being asked to push the Mavs franchise to the next level, Kidd is confident that his players, led by Luka Doncic, have what it takes and that he's simply going to let the chips fall where they may.

“Coming here to Dallas, it's about having fun. You can't control everything. You got to let your players be themselves,” Kidd adds.

The Mavs are coming off two heartbreaking first-round exits at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers. Expectations are high on Kidd as the entire city is leaning on him to propel the Mavs to legitimate postseason success.
