The Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks face off on Wednesday night and Luka Doncic and Trae Young, who were traded for each other, face off. Doncic hit a nice buzzer-beater at the end of the first half to cut the lead to three.

Doncic showed his frustration earlier in the week after missing a go-ahead trey against the Phoenix Suns in a game the Mavs lost 109-108 after Devin Booker hit a dagger 3 with a few ticks left on the clock.

The Hawks lead the Mavs 56-53 at halftime, and Doncic leads all scorers with 17 points on 5-of-12 from the field. Young has just six points on 2-for-6, as John Collins and Kevin Huerter led the way for the Hawks with 13 apiece.

Doncic has been off to a shaky start this year and is shooting a career-worst 29 percent from beyond the arc. To make matters worse, Dallas is off to a disappointing 8-13 start which is good for 13th in the Western Conference, so the success of Doncic is going to be huge for them moving forward.

The Hawks sit at 10-10 and are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference, and have been one of the most surprising teams in the NBA as they look to return to the playoffs with Young and Clint Capela leading the charge.

If the Mavericks want to turn this around and get back into the thick of the playoff race then Doncic needs to be the MVP-caliber player he was last season and it needs to happen quickly.
