Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic, once again, has been chosen as the best young player to build around the NBA. However, he wasn't a unanimous choice this time around.

In a recent ESPN survey asking NBA execs and scouts to vote for the young point guard they would choose to build around, Memphis Grizzlies All-Star Ja Morant came in at second. He was able to take four first-place votes away from Doncic, which speaks volumes of the kind of season he's having.

When asked about the long-term outlook between the two, an Eastern Conference scout admitted that Luka is indeed the “more talented” and better player. However, there is one problem that led to the said scout putting Morant ahead of Doncic for now: the Mavs star's conditioning.

“I would probably put Luka ahead of Ja big picture, but I'll put Ja ahead because of Luka's conditioning [worries] every offseason,” the anonymous scout furthered. “Luka's more talented, but I like Ja's approach more.”

Luka Doncic is well aware of this criticism, though, which is why his diet and conditioning has been an emphasis for him at the beginning of the season. While he did have a slow start, he has since been able to turn a corner and is now playing better than ever as he tries to lead the Mavs to the playoffs.

The Slovenian wonderboy is proving to everyone he is the best young player in the NBA today, and he is letting his game to do the talking.

There is merit to the concerns about his conditioning in the offseason, but by the looks of it, he has learned his lesson. Hopefully, it will be a different narrative for the Mavs guard this summer of 2022, so he can finally silence his haters and critics.
