The Dallas Mavericks announced on Thursday shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. underwent surgery to address a stress injury to his left tibia.

Hardaway is expected to resume basketball activities for the Mavs before the start of training camp.

The Mavs acquired Hardaway from the New York Knicks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade. He played in 19 games with the Mavs and averaged 15.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 40.4 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from beyond the arc and 76.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Dallas missed the playoffs this season.

Hardaway will make $18,150,000 next season. He has a player option worth $18,975,000 for the 2020-21 season. The Mavs are shooting to make the playoffs in 2019-20 since Porzingis will be playing. Hardaway is a guy who can score in bunches and stretch the floor with his 3-point shooting.

In 403 career NBA games with the Knicks, Atlanta Hawks and Mavs, Hardaway is averaging 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He is the son of Tim Hardaway, who was a five-time All-Star during his playing days.

Next season is going to be a strange one for Mavs fans. Dallas legend Dirk Nowitzki retired this season.

The franchise cornerstones are now Porzingis and Luka Doncic.
