Jalen Brunson is about to be a very rich man. The 25-year-old had an amazing season with the Dallas Mavericks and it now sounds like the Mavs are going to reward him with a highly lucrative contract extension. Even Luka Doncic is going to be shocked by the figures being thrown around with regard to Brunson's new deal.

According to reports, the Mavs are expected to table a four-year extension offer for Brunson that will be in the range of $85 million (h/t Erin Walsh of Bleacher Report):

The Dallas Mavericks point guard is in line to receive a contract that “meets or even exceeds” the four-year, $85 million deal Fred VanVleet signed with the Toronto Raptors in 2020, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

Now that's a lot of money. If this comes to fruition then Brunson is going to be earning an average of $21.2 million per season starting in 2022-23. That's a far cry from the $1.8 million he pocketed this past season, and it will make him the No. 2 guy on the Mavs payroll behind Luka's $35.7 million next term.

Brunson's current deal is set to expire this summer and several teams have already been linked to the highly-regarded guard. This is exactly why the Mavs aren't messing around here as they look to secure Brunson's services as soon as humanly possible.
