Despite already owning the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban may soon have more than just one basketball team in his empire. It has been reported that the billionaire businessman is currently in talks to become the majority owner of his team’s G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Founded as the Colorado 14ers back in 2006, the franchise eventually became the Legends in the 2010-11 season of the then D-League. It has been one of the most successful teams there, producing some players who have had extended stints in the NBA like Ish Smith, Lou Amundson, and Von Wafer, just to name a few. The Legends' current ownership group consists of Donnie Nelson, Evan Wyly, and Eduardo Najera, who all have strong ties with the Mavs.

Should Mark Cuban's plan to own majority of the franchise materialize, it will only make the Mavs' family more tightly-knit which would pave the way for them to develop more players in the G League. The Legends should also benefit from Cuban being an active owner, which may result to turning their fortunes around, as they have not made the playoffs in the past six seasons.
