With just under three minutes remaining in the third quarter of Friday night's road game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. threw down a two-handed slam between two defenders.

The Lakers jumped out to an early lead in Friday night's game, and the Mavs simply weren't able to recover. The Lakers hammered the Mavs on the glass, outrebounding them 62-29. When the final horn blew, Dallas had taken their third straight loss, 124-102.

“I've never seen a team make 19 3s and lose by over 20, so this is new for me,” Mavs coach Rick Carlisle told ESPN after Friday's loss. “It has to be about more than making shots, and tonight we got outrebounded. They played with great force tonight and we just did not.”

Smith Jr, 20, managed to rack up 13 points on 5-16 shooting from the field (1-6 from beyond the arc), five assists, four rebounds, one block, and one steal in his 30 minutes of playing time against the Lakers.

Lakers forward Julius Randle caused problems for the Mavs in Friday night's game. The former University of Kentucky Wildcat and No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 Draft turned in 18 points on 9-14 shooting from the field, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and a true plus/minus score of +27.

The Mavericks, now the fifth-ranked team in the Southwest Division standings with an 18-41 overall record, will wrap up their current back-to-back set with a match-up against the Utah Jazz on Saturday night inside the Vivint Smart Home Arena. Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. EST with FOX Sports Southwest having live broadcast coverage.
