The Memphis Tigers have had a rather rough offseason. Tubby Smith has lost talented players to transfer, heard the scorn of the fan base, and some are starting to think he doesn't belong coaching the program.

The last part of that conversation will forever haunt the Memphis basketball program. A lot of people would like one of “their own” to be manning the helm. However, that's an entirely different discussion for another time.

As for some recent good news, Smith has lured a giant humanoid to the program. Connor Vanover, who is listed at 7-foot-2, has decided to commit to the program.

Our aforementioned giant friend made his announcement on the mean streets of Twitter.

What makes Connor Vanover so special and incredibly unique is that he's not just some random big. Despite only being hailed as a 3-star prospect, the kid is known to hit shots from beyond the arc with regularity. He was a 43 percent three-point shooter during his stint playing with Pro Skills in the Nike EYBL this spring.

Vanover averaged 9.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game during the spring. Originally from Arkansas, he is spending his senior season of high school ball at prep school powerhouse Findlay Prep.

This is certainly a prospect to keep an eye on. For all the grievances some people have with Smith, no one would question his ability to both develop talent and get the most out of players. While Vanover appears a bit raw, there's some real skills running through his body.
