The New York Mets are going for it all. They spent big in free agency, namely on Max Scherzer and Starling Marte, and swung a trade for Oakland A's standout Chris Bassitt. It's clear that they are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.

The offseason moves from the Mets brought in players that complimented their current stars, like Jacob deGrom. The two-time Cy Young winner pitched only 92.0 innings. He was amazing in them but his downfall due to elbow issues was followed closely by the team's demise. Getting him back is huge and keeping him going throughout the season is crucial.

In live batting practice against his Mets teammates, deGrom dominated. Francisco Lindor was in awe of the superstar's abilities and Jeff McNeil was happy just to hit a foul ball off of him. Their reactions show that deGrom is ready to go and still one of the very best pitchers in MLB.

deGrom seemingly faired better against his teammates in practice than newcomer Max Scherzer, who allowed two home runs to Dominic Smith. Scherzer explained that the homers are actually good things as the title hopefuls prepare for the season. Really, though, they aren't any indications about what's to come when the games start counting.

The Mets have all the pieces to compete in the National League but don't have time to figure out things. The winning has to start this season if they want to maximize DeGrom and Scherzer, both of whom are over 33 years old. But with how good they both are, that shouldn't be a problem.
