The New York Mets have reshaped their pitching room drastically this offseason. After making a huge splash for Max Scherzer, they traded for Chris Bassitt to add another strong starter in their rotation. Now, they are adding a piece to their bullpen.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets are signing relief pitcher Adam Ottavino to a one-year deal. The 36-year-old will replace Jeurys Familia, who signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, in a bullpen that features Edwin Diaz, Seth Lugo and Trevor May.

The Brooklyn, NY native spent last season with the Boston Red Sox and the prior two with the New York Yankees. He posted a 4.59 ERA in 80.1 innings over the prior two seasons. In the two seasons before that, Ottavino posted a 2.19 ERA in 144 innings. Whether or not he plays well, he should at least be a very durable option in Queens.

As the right-hander ages, his role is likely to decrease. Having a bounce-back year could change that. Since Ottavino is armed with one of the nastiest sliders in the majors, he could be useful for a Mets team looking to compete.

Although this signing isn't one of their most notable ones, the Mets are showing that they really want to get back to the playoffs.
