Michigan Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard spoke to reporters Wednesday for the first time since being suspended five games. The Michigan coach was suspended for his postgame altercation with Wisconsin Badgers coaches, including taking a swipe at assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft. While speaking to the media, Howard opened up about what happened that evening and took ownership for his part.

Sports Illustrated's Walton Jackson captured his thoughts.

“I can come with 1,000 excuses but I will not,” Howard said. “I take full ownership for my actions. … That was not the right way to carry myself as a head coach at the University of Michigan. I was truly upset with myself and did soul-searching how I can improve.”

The fracas ensued after Howard's jab, as multiple players began throwing punches. Wolverine players Terrance Williams and Moussa Diabate were both suspended one game. In Howard's absence, Michigan went 2-3 and finished the regular season 11-9 in the Big Ten and 17-13 overall.

It's a disappointing season thus far for Michigan fans. But they get their coach back just in time for the Big Ten Tournament. Howard rejoined the team Monday, speaking to players individually upon his return. He then put them through practice both Tuesday and Wednesday, in preparation for their upcoming game against the Indiana Hoosiers Thursday.

In order for Michigan to make the NCAA Tournament, they likely need to go on a run and win the Big Ten Tournament. Either that, or make the final and beat the league's top teams along the way.
