While the NCAA Tournament continues to dazzle, teams that aren't still dancing are making head coach decisions. The Mississippi State Bulldogs, after a first-round loss in the NIT, have found their replacement for Ben Howland, who was canned a few days ago.

The Bulldogs are finalizing a deal with New Mexico State head coach Chris Jans. The Aggies confirmed the move shortly after it was first reported.

New Mexico State entered March Madness as a 12th seed and took down UConn in the first round. After a close loss to Arkansas, Mississippi State swooped in and found their next head coach.

Jans spent five seasons at New Mexico State. His teams won the WAC Tournament three times and Jans took home the conference's coach of the year award twice in a row. He won 79.2 percent of his games with the Aggies and three of his players — Jemerrio Jones, Zach Lofton and Trevelin Queen — made it to the NBA.

Jans also served as an assistant coach for Witchita State was the head coach at Bowling Green for one season. He was fired from Bowling Green after inappropriately touching a woman. According to ESPN's Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello, Mississippi State conducted two background checks on Jans and was comfortable enough with the results to hire him.

A source told ESPN that Mississippi State hired an outside law firm to research all candidates, and that group made calls to administrations, players and former staffers at Bowling Green, Wichita State and New Mexico State. That helped them build comfort with his candidacy.

Other schools that have been making head coaching moves includes the Florida Gators, who hired Todd Golden, and the UCLA Bruins, who extended Mick Cronin.
