The Chicago Bears will face the Detroit Lions in an NFC North showdown in Week 10. While both teams attempt to sneak into the playoff race, all eyes will be on Mitchell Trubisky.
Trubisky has made headlines with his recent request to get the televisions in Halas Hall turned off due to the negative comments directed towards the Bears. Yes, it is completely understandable to be exhausted from criticism that comes from the media.
At the same time, Trubisky has to understand when he and the Bears underperform, there is going to be warranted concerns with the team. In his third season in the NFL, Trubisky hasn't had to deal with much adversity in Chicago.
Last year, the Bears were 12-4 and Matt Nagy won the NFL's Coach of the Year Award in his first year with the franchise. Just a year later, Chicago has a 3-5 record and have lost four games in a row.
Fortunately, Trubisky and the Bears will get a chance to bounce back against the Lions, who have also underwhelmed. Here are three bold predictions for Trubisky as he faces the Lions in Week 10.
3. Trubisky will throw for two touchdowns
In Nagy's second season as Chicago's head coach, the offense has scored only 17.8 points per game (27th in the NFL). This comes after the Bears had the ninth-ranked scoring offense with 26.3 points per game in 2018.
The offense has been at their worst when Trubisky has been under center at quarterback. The North Carolina product has thrown only five touchdowns in his seven starts for the Bears.
Furthermore, Trubisky has only thrown a touchdown in two of his starts. Even with that being the case, Trubisky will throw for two touchdowns against a Lions defense that surrenders 27.1 points per game (27th in the NFL).
2. Trubisky will complete 70 percent of his attempts
One of the biggest areas of concern for Trubisky since he came into the NFL in 2017 is his accuracy. From 2017-2018, the Bears' franchise quarterback completed only 63.5 percent of his passes.
So far this season, Trubisky has completed 63 percent of his passing attempts. Over the past three weeks, Trubisky has only converted nearly 61 percent of his passes.
On the other hand, Detroit's defense only allows quarterbacks to complete 60.4 percent of their passes (fourth-best in the NFL). With that being said, Trubisky will have his most efficient game of the season.
1. Trubisky will throw for 300 yards
Again, Chicago's offense has been extremely stagnant and has been unable to get into a groove. The Bears boast the 30th ranked pass offense in the NFL and Trubisky has failed to surpass 300 yards through the air in 2019.
As a matter of fact, Trubisky hasn't thrown 300 yards in a game since Week 10 of the 2018 season. Of course, his opponent was the Lions in that game and he aired it out for a career-high 355 yards.
Detroit has given up 288.4 passing yards per game (31st in the NFL) and has allowed 295.8 yards per game in the past four weeks. Given that, Trubisky will have his sixth career 300-yard game in Week 10.
