Nick Castellanos broke out as a star at the best possible time. He earned his first All-Star nomination and Silver Slugger last season, making him one of the best players to hit MLB free agency this offseason.

The 30-year-old doubles machine is still up for grabs and has many suitors. According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins are among the leaders to sign him. The two NL East teams could benefit greatly from his offense.

In 138 games last season, Castellanos hit 38 doubles (which ranked eigth in all of MLB) and 34 home runs while posting a slash line of .309/.362/.576. All three of those averages are career-highs over a full season for him. His defense is quite bad, but his positional flexibility – he can play corner outfield or third base — and tremendous hitting makes up for that weakness.

The Phillies are looking to make another big splash after signing Kyle Schwarber. They should look to surround reigning MVP Bryce Harper with more hitting while they address their woeful pitching situation. With other sluggers on the roster like J.T. Realmuto and Rhys Hoskins, they shoudl be one of the better offensive teams in the NL, if not all of MLB, with Castellanos.

The Marlins, who signed Avisail Garcia earlier in the offseason, have been in on Castellanos for a while. After posting the lowest OPS+ in all of MLB, it's clear they need some productive bats. They need hitting badly and Castellanos would immediately become their best one.
