After its premiere last week, Marvel’s newest series on Disney+ ended with viewers seeing the titular hero in costume for the first time. And while everyone is still processing what happened, here’s Moon Knight episode 2 ending explained to make everything clearer after that awesome cliffhanger.

Moon Knight episode 2 ending explained

Oscar Isaac, Moon Knight, Marvel, Entertainment

The latest episode on Disney+ starts with Oscar Isaac’s Steven Grant violently waking up from bed and rushing to the mirror to check for something strange. He then returns to the museum to discover some parts of it being closed due to damage. Grant then asks the security official to access the security videos to get proof of the monster that attacked him during the previous episode.

Instead of the result he was looking for, the video showed Grant was all alone and staring at the cameras, much to his disbelief.

Before he was fired from his job, Grant received a key from his superior, which led him to search for a storage unit all over the city. He comes across one and discovers an enclosed room filled with different possessions, including a firearm, stacks of cash, a passport belonging to Marc Spector, his alternate identity, and the golden scarab from the previous episode.

After examining the scarab, Spector appeared to him via the room’s metallic reflection. The two converse with Grant demanding the truth out of Spector. The latter then admits to serving Khonsu, the Egyptian god of the moon, and asks permission to gain control of Grant’s body. As expected, Steven starts to panic and threatens to disclose what Spector has done.

At that point, the lights start to flicker violently as Khonsu appears to Grant.

“Give it back you fool,” the Egyptian god said.

Giving in to fear, Grant screams and runs away and stumbles upon Layla. He then discovers that she’s his wife and pleads to come home with her to clarify things. As the two talk, Marc begs Steven not to involve her.

For her part, Layla is confused with the contents of Steven’s apartment and quizzes him about their divorce while calling him Marc all the time. He then tries to show Layla what’s inside the bag he got while Marc continues to talk inside his mind. She then finds the golden scarab and gets angry at Steven for keeping it.

With tears in her eyes, Layla asks Steven if he can’t remember their life together while finding the golden artifact. The police then arrive and barge through Grant’s home as Layla finds her way outside to hide. They then interrogate Grant for finding Marc Spector’s passport and arrest him afterward. The police then reveal that Spector murdered a man in Egypt, to which they are now blaming Grant for the said crime.

After reaching their destination, Marc begs one more time to surrender control of their body to him. Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow then appears and unlocks Steven’s handcuffs. Harrow then reveals that he knows about Marc Spector and Khonshu, who then appears in Steven’s vision, asking him to kill the cult leader. He hesitates and walks with him.

A town full of people coming from different ethnicities is then revealed with Harrow as their leader. As they eat, Harrow reveals that he was Khonshu’s former avatar, explaining why he knows a great deal about the Egyptian god. He then explains that Ammit is better because eradicates the choice of evil before it even happens. This is where the golden scarab comes into play.

As Harrow explains, the scarab itself acts as a compass that will lead to Ammit’s tomb. From there, Harrow plans to resurrect the goddess and implement his plan. Steven then argues with him that Ammit’s ways are wrong with the punishment coming first before the crime has even happened.

Harrow then shows the staff given to her by Ammit and explains that he doesn’t want to use its power on Steven to get the scarab’s location. All of a sudden, Layla appears out of nowhere with the scarab in her hand. The voice of Khonshu then speaks and pleads with Marc to fix this situation.

Layla and Steven start to run with the former begging him to summon the suit. As they do, Harrow emits purple energy to the floor, which releases a monstrous hand from it. The pair then find themselves in a locked room with Layla telling Steven that he’s Marc Spector and he can become Moon Knight. Grant then panics and admits he can’t do what Layla is asking him to do.

The Jackal then appears and Grant jumps out through the window. Out of nowhere, he’s wearing a white suit and a mask with a moon sigil on it. Steven’s personality is still in control while he’s struggling against an unseen foe. It then focuses its attention on Layla until Steven decides not to give up control to Marc and save her himself from the Jackal.

Bystanders then see Steven flail around and looking like a crazy person fighting alone. He then decides to give control of the body to Marc. The latter transforms into Moon Knight’s hooded version from the first episode and leads the monstrous jackal away from the crowd.

After impaling the monster on a sundial, the Moon Knight costume disappears and Marc discovers that he lost the scarab. A stranger then picks it up and hands it over to Harrow, who then kills him.

Speaking through a reflection, Steven then sees his role reversed from that of Marc. He is now trapped with the mercenary in control of the body. The pair argue about what Spector has done, with Grant threatening to hound him all the time. Khonshu comes out of nowhere and admonishes Marc for losing the scarab and allowing Steven to endanger their mission. The god then said that if he fails, he will then possess Layla after to complete his goal.

After blacking out, Spector finds himself in a hotel room in Egypt with Khonshu seemingly transporting the mercenary there.
