Being a father of an NBA player, Mychal Thompson understands his role in the life and career of his son, Klay Thompson. Despite having the role of color commentator for the Los Angeles Lakers, and having the opportunity to speak regularly about the game, the older Thompson refrains from commenting a lot about the Golden State Warriors shooting guard and lets his game do the talking for him.

This is the same advice he gave for LaVar Ball, whose son, Lonzo, is a top prospect in this year’s draft. He gave high praise to the UCLA product for his ability to shoot and pass, but also added, via Mark Medina of the LA Daily News, that his father needs to avoid saying anything against his future teammates in the NBA.

“He’s Jason Kidd 2.0. His teammates would love playing with him. Lonzo sees the play developing even before his teammates, just like Magic (Johnson) and Jason Kidd.”

“I love his outspokenness and I love his boastfulness. It’s fun and entertaining. The only thing I would advise LaVar is to avoid criticism of Lonzo’s teammates. Don’t do that. That’s a no-no.”

While there is no doubt that Lonzo Ball is a very talented player, many believe his stock has taken a hit following the numerous absurd comments LaVar has made over the past couple of months. However, should he be drafted by the Lakers, it will be a dream come true for him, and his family will also get their wish. It also remains to be seen if the older Ball will change his ways, as he is already seen as a possible distraction for whichever teams drafts Lonzo, and could affect their chemistry.
