The Washington Nationals are presenting former star player Ryan Zimmerman with the ultimate honor this season. The team recently announced that they will be retiring Zimmerman's number 11 in June of the 2022 campaign.

The former third baseman/first baseman spent his entire 16-year career as a National. He was the team's first real star after they moved from Montreal to Washington. Zimmerman finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2006, and he was truly just scratching the surface with his .287 batting average and 20 home run effort.

Following a couple of decent years, he broke out in 2009 to the tune of a .292/.364/.525 line to go along with 33 home runs and 106 RBI's. He would go on to be named to the All-Star team for this first time as well in 2009. Additionally, Zimmerman was awarded a Silver Slugger and Gold Glove for his overall strong performance.

Ryan Zimmerman would end up winning a second consecutive Silver Slugger award in 2010. However, he would not reach his career best season until 2017 at age 32. Zimmerman finished that campaign with an astounding .303/.358/.573 line while producing a career high .930 OPS. He also set career highs in home runs with 36 and RBI's with 108. He wound up making his second and final All-Star team in 2017 as well.

He never again had a season similar to his monster 2017 performance, but he played a vital role during the Nationals 2019 World Series run. His numbers were down but his leadership in the clubhouse was of the utmost importance.

He officially left baseball following the conclusion of the 2021 season, and will be soon rewarded with his number 11 being retired in 2022.

Ryan Zimmerman is a true Washington Nationals legend.
