Before the knee injuries took a toll on his body, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Derrick Rose was the most explosive point guard in NBA history. No one could stay in front of him, both in the half court and full court, and the San Antonio Spurs learned that the hard way during Rose's MVP season with the Chicago Bulls.

Rose became the youngest MVP in NBA history during the 2010-11 season with his hometown Bulls. He was only 22 years old. During a February home game against the Spurs, Derrick Rose scored a whopping 42 points.

Look at the speed, the explosion, the body control. Derrick Rose was must-see television before the knee injuries. It's unfortunate he was injured before he was able to hit his prime. But at least the Chicago native was able to bring an MVP award to his hometown.

Rose is now with the Timberwolves. He's coming off the bench and primarily playing the shooting guard position. The now 30-year-old is still one of the most explosive players in the game, and he should be commended for the hard work he has put in to come back from four knee surgeries. It's just that he won't ever be as fast or as dominant as he used to be, and that makes a lot of basketball fans upset.

But on a night when the Timberwolves was missing it's top two backcourt players, Rose took the opportunity in front of him in a huge way. He scored a new career-high 50 points in a very emotional contest against the Utah Jazz.
