As far as epic pickup games are concerned, perhaps there was none bigger than “The Blackout at Rucker Park.” On this exact date 15 years ago, stars like LeBron James, Shaquille O'Neal, Carmelo Anthony, and Yao Ming faced off in the streets of Harlem in a game that never even had the chance to tip off.

Thanks to a redditor with user name u/MisterHibachi, we have been treated to one of, if not the biggest streetball throwback tales of all time.

The buildup to this Hollywood-like narrative was incredible. Jay-Z and his S. Carter squad had successfully booked themselves to a championship match against Fat Joe's Terror Squad. This was to be the culminating matchup in the Entertainer's Basketball Classic (EBC) tournament that took place in the legendary grounds of Holocombe Rucker Park in Harlem, New York.

For those who are not familiar, Rucker Park is one of the most popular public basketball courts in the United States. By the looks of it, the park does not stand out from any other neighborhood court one would see scattered throughout America. However, it is a place where some of the biggest names in the history of the sport honed their craft. These include the likes of Kobe Bryant, Kyrie Irving, and Stephon Marubry, as well as some of the legends of the game such as Julius “Dr. J” Irving, Kareem Abdul-Jabar, and Wilt Chamberlain.

In August of 2013, Rucker Park was set to host arguably the biggest basketball game in its history. Unfortunately, a national calamity stood in the way. The infamous nationwide blackout of that summer ensured that history would not take place in Harlem on that fateful day.

The world never got to see LeBron James dunk all over Fat Joe's squad.
