The NBA is in the midst of a suspension after two of its players tested positive for coronavirus. While teams are already concerned about how the pandemic will affect their season, George Karl tried to calm some frayed nerves by saying that it will eventually pass.

The seasoned head coach took to his Twitter account and tried to assure everyone that this problem, while trying, will eventually be overcome. He even referenced previous events as motivation to his fellow Americans.

“It’s an eerie time. It reminds me of similar moments of crisis- 9/11, the Cuban Missle Crisis and the end of the Vietnam War eg.

This, too, shall pass. And it could be a chance to help us reunify!”

Karl meant well when he mentioned all of the recent problems that have affected the NBA one way of another. The Vietnam War was a divisive issue that had sympathizers and critics who claimed the war as unnecessary. The Cuban Missile Crisis during the Cold War gave everyone cold feet for years on end. The 9/11 crisis helped the United States unite against a common enemy.

However, it's important to bring up that all of the issues the former Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets coach brought up are different compared to the current coronavirus outbreak. All of the things he mentioned were diplomatic issues where warfare was an integral part of the conversation. Meanwhile, the coronavirus is a health issue that is testing the world's healthcare systems.

Karl is correct in encouraging his fellow Americans and saying that this shall pass. However, the repercussions of this pandemic will be quite different compared to the samples he mentioned.
