The Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons have been engaged in talks on a trade centered on Andre Drummond, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

No deal is imminent, but the Pistons are talking to the Hawks and several other teams on Drummond:

Drummond has a player option worth $28.8 million for the 2020-21 campaign. If he declines, the All-Star big man would become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends.

Drummond is likely going to look for a max contract on the open market, but he might not get it, according to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic:

There is a scenario in which Detroit could trade its franchise center this season. Again, it’ll depend on where the Pistons are in the playoff race by the time the deadline inches closer. There also is a scenario in which the Pistons could let him walk in free agency. And, of course, depending on if the Pistons can turn it around, he could return next year on a new contract. One source said Drummond likely will sign a new contract that averages somewhere between $20 million and $25 million annually, not the max.

Drummond is averaging 17.6 points, 15.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 blocks per game this season for the Pistons, who are 12-23. Andre is shooting 53.7 percent from the field and 61.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Hawks have the worst record in the NBA, but are said to be looking to upgrade their roster. The Pistons, meanwhile, could embark on a rebuild and trade Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose after moving Drummond.
