New York Knicks point guard Trey Burke wound up having the best-possible career resurgence in orange-and-blue, despite unseating an exciting prospect in Frank Ntilikina, a newly-traded asset in Emmanuel Mudiay, and a proven veteran in Jarrett Jack. Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant noted his road to prominence was different than others, but still valuable.

“He tapped back into the real Trey Burke in the G League,” Durant said in the comments of an Instagram post praising Burke's future. “Everyone's route is different. He even grew [h]is hair out and everything lol.”

Burke managed to outplay every backcourt player in the roster during the latter part of the season, as his tentative contract became a full-fledged one after two 26-point outings in late February to snap an eight-game losing streak.

The Michigan product would then go on to drop a career-high 42 points against the Charlotte Hornets in late March along with 12 assists, further assessing his place in the starting rotation.

Burke only has $100,000 guaranteed of his $1.8 million salary for the 2018-19 season, something that might just spark him to do even better this season in the search for a contract extension.

A former ninth overall pick in 2013, Trey Burke averaged 12.8 points and 4.7 assists for the Knicks during last season, shooting a studly 50.3 percent from the floor and a respectable 36.2 percent from deep.
